Studies in Zen
Title
Studies in Zen
Description
More than any other Buddhist scholar of the twentieth century, Dr. D. T. Suzuki was responsibie for bringing the teachings and enlightenment of Zen Buddhism to Western culture. Throughout a long and productive lifetime he was devoted to interpreting the teachings and writings of the great Zen masters for both the East and West. Although he never-became a priest in any Buddhist sect, he was honored for his spiritual knowledge in every temple in Japan. For many years he was Professor of Buddhist Philosophy at the Otani University and, through his extensive published works, including 18 books written in English, he gained the respect and following of Buddhists throughout the world.
STUDIES IN ZEN contains seven of of Suzuki's most important articles, including his "The Zen Sect of Buddhism," which refuted the traditional history of Zen; "An Interpretation of Zen-Experience", and his highly regarded "Reason and intuition in Buddhist Philosophy," which carefully explores the meanings of prajna and vijnana. By discussing the meaning and history of Zen, Dr. Suzuki's articles provide new insights into the
complexities of Zen thought and action.
